http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FYsmIZhAbc I like this. I'm glad I participated and look forward to World Juggling Day 2012.
The PAL Pledge
I Pledge to remain committed to the common good.
I Pledge to crouch as low as I can.
I Pledge to jump as high as I am able.
I Pledge to catch the wind and trust.
I Pledge to not be blinded by fear.
I Pledge to not be blinded by anger.
I Pledge to teach juggling to any individual or group that wants to learn.
I Pledge to aid and assist other jugglers.
PAL is a philanthropic puppet, juggling, and storytelling company. This was the title of the prize winning piece. The prize was awarded on August 9, 2008, at one of the annual Writer's Conferences of the Gary Historical and Cultural Society.
The prize was for the Mission and Pledge of a fledgling business that I had started in Gary. I still use it as my business and life guide. While it is a short and simple piece to share. These ideas were the result of my struggle to find my most effective self no matter where it took me. My quest has not been easy. There have been lessons all along the way. Some took longer to learn than others. Some are still being learned. But I will stand with the Mission and Pledge of PAL in the hope that it might help others who struggle toward living effectively. Those of us who push our boundaries of comfort into zones of discovery. But, I am not here to share my personal journey, that's mine. I am here to share the Mission and Pledge that guide me and to wish you good fortune and creative fulfillment. May you each find your helpers and recognize them.
The mission of PAL is to educate, engage, and build skills with community residents through shared, multi-generational, kinesthetic art. The primary means of accomplishing these goals will use puppetry, juggling, storytelling and circus arts. Since the creative spirit continuosly repairs a broken society, my philanthropic goal is to support fundraising activities for creative projects that integrate education, history, and the fine arts. I am fundamentally concerned with the quest to restore rhyme and reason, so that they can collaborate on an equal basis.
In order to accomplish my mission I will work hard for what I believe in and apply principles that I have learned from my life experiences, which include travel- both foreign and domestic. A career of teaching in inner city high schools; and a fascination with puppetry, juggling, Spanish and literature.
